Description: On 21st August, the department of social science organised an educational field trip to H.P Vidhan Sabha where the students of Classes 11 and 12 got a rare opportunity to witness democracy in action. The visit began with an enriching interaction with the Hon'ble Speaker, Sh. Kuldeep Singh Pathania, before the commencement of the session. Just before his entry for the interaction, the students witnessed the ceremonial Guard of Honour presented to the Hon'ble Speaker . It was a moment of great discipline and grandeur that marked the dignity and sanctity of the high office. The Speaker then warmly welcomed the students, briefed them about the functioning of the Vidhan Sabha and motivated them to be aware and responsible citizens. Thereafter, the students were seated in the visitors' gallery. For many, it was a thrilling moment to see the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and MLAs live, right in front of them. The House proceedings began with the singing of the National Anthem, filling the hall with a sense of pride and solemnity. However, soon after, the decorum of the House was disrupted when a heated debate broke out. Members of the Opposition raised the issue of why 'Vande Mataram' was not sung along with the National Anthem. The argument escalated quickly, leading to sloganeering from both sides. The Hon'ble Speaker made sincere efforts to restore peace and order in the House, but the uproar continued. Finally, with no option left, the House was adjourned. Though the session was short-lived, it gave students a real and unfiltered glimpse of parliamentary democracy - its ideals as well as its challenges. After the adjournment, the students had the privilege of interacting with the Hon'ble Chief Minister. The experience became even more memorable when the students were approached and interviewed by several news channels. The trip was not just informative but truly inspiring. It transformed textbook lessons on democracy, debate and governance into a live visual experience that the students will cherish for a long time.
