Description: A drill on the use of fire extinguishers in the school premises was an engaging and informative event. The workers who were experts in the fire safety, taught students and teachers about the different types of fire extinguishers and their uses. The drill focused on three main types of fire extinguishers i.e. A, B and C. Each type is designed to combat a specific type of fire. Class A Extinguishers: - These extinguishers are effective against fire involving ordinary combustible materials such as paper, wood and cloth. Water is a common extinguishing agent used in class A extinguishers. Class B Extinguishers: - These extinguishers are designed to combat fires involving flammable liquids such as gasoline, oil and paint. Foam or dry chemical extinguishers are often used for class B fires. Class C Extinguishers: - These extinguishers are effective against electrical fires involving appliances, wiring and circuit breakers. Non-Conductive extinguishing agents such as carbon dioxide or dry chemicals are used for class C fires. Hands-on Training After the theoretical session, many teachers and students were given hands on training on using fire extinguishers. The trainers demonstrated how to properly operate the extinguishers, emphasizing the PASS method:- P- Pull the safety pin or ring to release the lock A- Aim the nozzle or hose at the base of the fire. S- Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent. S- Sweep the nozzle or hose from side to side, covering the entire area of the fire. The drill highlighted the importance of fire safety and the need for awareness about fire extinguishers. Participants learned how to identify the types of fires and choose the correct extinguishers to combat them.
